Northern Renewables – NT Showcase Company

Northern Renewables is a locally owned and operated solar and electrical business. Founded in 2018 by Jake Groves and Leigh Fowkes, Northern Renewables quickly expanded to a team of six within its first year. Both Jake and Leigh have been in the solar and electrical industry for over a decade, working extensively along the east coast. For Jake, starting Katherine Solar was a return to his hometown, and an opportunity to contribute to the sustainable future of Katherine and the broader Northern Territory.

In 2019, the business was engaged for the development of the Katherine Solar Farm. At the height for the project, the Northern Renewables team expanded to 34. This project and the resulting ongoing work has been significant in increasing capability. Continued work on the solar farm includes general maintenance, rectification, and an expansion into ground maintenance and solar panel cleaning.

The Northern Renewables team includes Apprentice Electricians, A-grade Electricians, Administration and an Electrical Engineer. This diverse workforce allows Northern Renewables to broaden its service offering beyond basic solar installations. Outside of solar installations, the business offers electrical services such as compliance inspections and air conditioning servicing.

A software package called Solar Plus is utilised to design solar and storage systems based on the specific usage and requirements of the business or household. After installation, the software tracks the performance of the system. As an after-sales option, Northern Renewables monitors analytics of installed systems remotely and notifies customers if their system is under-performing or if there is a fault.

Northern Renewables is currently providing services in Katherine and remote communities across the Big River Region and is looking at opportunities to further expand across the Top End.
