NC Electrical & Air-Conditioning / Solar City

Neill Carberry established NC Electrical and Air-Conditioning (NCE) in 2011 as a sole trader. The business expanded rapidly and now employs ten staff. NCE has worked hard to build a solid reputation in the Northern Territory as a reliable and quality-focused electrical and solar company.

The business has successfully managed the delivery of projects for both Defence and the private sector. Projects undertaken have varied in complexity, size and location – from urban areas to regional communities.

Neill relocated to Darwin over ten years ago to follow his love for renewables – more sun and a better market for solar. By 2017 NCE was positioned as a leading solar installation specialist in the Territory and NCE subsidiary, SolarCity NT was established.

SolarCity initially focussed on residential installations. “It’s what we enjoyed doing and what we were used to,” says Neill. As the company grew, it moved into commercial PV and has since delivered several solar installations for Defence.

The business completed its first utility-scale solar installation in 2018. The 754kW roof-mounted installation in Victoria proved that an NT company could compete on this scale. The project required an impressive 16,000m of cabling, 3016 solar modules, ten inverters and 3,360 man hours!

Since then, solar projects undertaken in the Northern Territory have included a 250kW system for the Adina Vibe hotel and a 100kW system for the Palmerston Library. In addition, SolarCity has installed systems for over 500 residential customers with a combined impact of 3.3MW.

SolarCity has also designed and constructed the “Solaris” modular units in conjunction with Demountable Sales and Hire. The Solaris units can be used for offices or accommodation and come with solar panels, lithium batteries and backup generators to ensure 24/7 power in any location.

With many of the company’s projects undertaken in operational environments, Neill says NCE focusses on astute project planning to ensure minimal disruptions, enabling clients to continue operations throughout the works.
